BY ORSO HOTELS

In the district-village of Pernety, Montparnasse and next door to rue de Thermopyles, Hôtel Cabane has received a new makeover under the Orso brand. This Parisian oasis (formerly known as 9Hôtel Montparnasse) including its unique 3-star flagship cabin, has been included as part of the collection of carefully curated hotels by Anouk and Louis Solanet.

Set amidst the luscious greenery within the heart of Paris, this hotel possess the attributes of a charming guest house. Since the completion of its renovation, the hotel has been unveiled with a refreshed new skin that is signed by Selency x Wilo & Grove x Galerie Incognio. The trio are notable players in the realm of furniture and decor, and their collaborative work on this project has created the spirit of an urban countryside that is both intimate and familiar.

In the dining room and bar area, this friendly space is adorned with sculptural artworks by Vanessa Bouziges, where a large farm table rests inviting visitors to sit, eat breakfast, enjoy a drink, have a chat, or even work, whilst they are facing the large glass bay windows that open up to the courtyard garden. Illuminated by vintage natural wicker lights that are designed by Temde Leuchten, a long elegant counter that has been decorated in terracotta tiles from Beaujolais is displayed. There, clients can treat themselves to a coffee or a house cocktail, and a range of snacks from the á la carte menu.

Like all the addresses under the Orso brand, the communal spaces have been designed like a family home or a friend’s that is warm and inviting. From the moment when the guests step foot into the hotel, they are immersed in a decor that is instantly inviting. The magic operates within the space in particular with the long bench that stretches out and is to be shared with friends, whilst a vinyl record is on play, with a book hand. A handwoven triptych designed by Kanica adorns the walls of this space, and rests as one of the reassuring balances to an important space of the hotel, being the lobby area. Just like a family home, we always want to rest in the living room spaces. A library has also been made available containing books that have been left by travellers, and just like home, they are exchanged, borrowed and read between guests.

Overall, this large house contains 42 bedrooms across the five levels of the building. Guests are able to choose from a standard or superior room which vary between 13 and 15m2. Behind the hotel, along the tree-lined terrace, a secluded cabin is found that accommodates those who are in need of hiding. The keystone to the hotel is that this little cabin is accessible from the walkway from the patio, which provides a ‘refuge within a refuge’ for those needing the perfect getaway. Cladded with wood from the French forests, it has been revisited by Selency in the spirit of the ‘Sixties California’. Once again, the space has been dressed in an enveloping atmosphere of warm colours. The bedroom has been adorned with beautiful pieces such as a timeless Butterfly armchair, an artwork by Sophie and Hervé de Mestier, and Atelier A shell sconces designed by André Cazen and Michèle Mahé from the 70s.

True to their values, Anouk and Louis Solanet believe in creating hospitality venues that are based on the art of good manners, simplicity and generosity - ultimately where the best memories of a hotel night are born. Hotel Cabane is the latest personified work of their own manifesto.
